Fellow Wolf Releases New Music Video + Plays BOTH - 1/13

The San Francisco based "ambient fuzz-rock band", Fellow Wolf has released a crisp new music video for their single, The Bluebird.

"We rented the camera which shot the highest quality slow motion that we could afford. The location is a local San Francisco dive bar. We filled it with friends from close until sunrise. Everyone stayed, but mostly because we didn’t let them leave." - Christopher Drellow of Fellow Wolf

We like this song and the music video is very interesting to watch! Make sure you continue to support local artists and attend their upcoming show at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco on January 13 with Sea Knight and Ghost Tiger.

Smoking Surgeon to release You Play Music Like A Girl compilation

Recently launched PDX label Smoking Surgeon is preparing to release its first compilation, You Play Music Like A Girl, just before the holiday hits. Don't let the title upset you though, Portland. The main focus of the compilation is to spotlight Portland's various female-inclusive acts, attempting to counteract the phrase's negative connotation in a satirical and talented way, bringing new life to the phrase.

...Like A Girl will feature some of the city's finest in fem power, from bassists and guitarists to keyboardists and songwriters. Vocalists, too. Enjoy the sounds of locals Old Wave, Haley Heynderickx, Coco Columbia and Pony Village on the comp, plus many more.

A release show will be held in celebration of its launch at the Liquor Store on December 22nd. Playing the show will be Lubec, The Century and Moniker with entrance only being $5. Just so you know, $8 will get you entry plus a copy of the comp!

Smoking Surgeon Records was bred by lovely lady musician Emma Browne and Justin Chase, who happened to come from a home of musically inclined women. Aside from a mutual passion and respect for women in music, the two also share the stage as part of the band Rare Diagram. Both in the band and as a record label, the two only manifest a greatness worthy of all our attention.

Wildcat Apollo at Hole in the Wall December 15, Plus a Shimmering New Track with Layers to Spare

For those of y’all lookin’ to squeeze just a little more live music out of yer homebase before fuckin’ off to someplace dismal for the holidays, Austin psychpop outfit Wildcat Apollo is playing an end of the year show at Hole in the Wall on December 15 with Whiteman Dancing, The Wheel Workers and The Sunshine Feels. As a nice lil prep for that, here’s the first track released by the group online in some time, which is some good genre colliding stuff. There’s something a little Pixies and a little MGMT about Wildcat Apollo’s new track “Kaleidoscopic.” Layered, floating vocals and shimmering guitars sit on a bed of crunchy, tight electronic-style beats, taking as much from the world of recent indie electropop as from classic psychedelic music, but with the result being a song that feels more like a Pixies “Wave of Mutilation”-esque track (complete with big, twanging bass and lyrics about going “into the ocean”) in a way that takes that spirit and does its own, more modern thing with it. It’s pretty and full of little moments of balance that bely a lot of talent here, so get a listen on, and check out the show if you need yer Austin fix one last time before the Yuletide drowns us all.
