Year Of Glad

Year Of Glad Opening for Nots at KFN Oct. 22

Year Of Glad are finding the sweet spots with the one-two combination of Mimi (Nona) Gallagher and Chris Diehm (1994!). Backed by Mike Bell (of Mike Bell & The Movies) and Mike Harping (of Good Luck), the group dropped its self-titled debut EP this past summer via Philly’s own Lame-O Records. They’ll be opening things up tonight at Kung Fu Necktie for Memphis garage-punk all-female quartet Nots. Hometown acts Mannequin Pussy and Telepathic will be the meat of this punk-rock sandwich, helping us push through to the weekend. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 8pm, $10, 21+ - Alexis V.

Lithuania Album Release Show at Boot & Saddle August 11

Lithuania’s highly anticipated LP Hardcore Friends is being released this week via Lame-O Records. Tonight, the trio that includes DRGN King’s Dominic Angelella and Dr. Dog’s Eric Slick as well as Ricardo Lagomasino, celebrates with a record release show at Boot & Saddle. Angelella & Slick share vocal duties on songs that whose on your toes punk immediacy is leveled by melodic emotives that glimpse inward. They lay it all out there; then iron it out while reeling it in. Rachel Browne’s (Field Mouse) solo venture Anomie kicks off the festivities. While power pop quartet and Lame-O Records label mates, Year of Glad bridge the gap to the collaborative brethren. Boot & Saddle 1131 S. Broad St., 8pm, $10, 21+ Michael Colavita

Spraynard Record Release Show at PhilaMOCA July 19

Freshly released via Jade Tree, Mable, the new album from pop-punk outfit Spraynard is being celebrated with a Sunday performance presented by R5 Productions at PhilaMOCA. The band's latest record rouses with a percussion-forward tone, establishing a controlled yet aggressive path. That running start adrenaline rush feeds into lyrics that ooze emotion as though pulled straight from the chest (in that universal latches into your lexicon kind of way). There’s a pulling in the same direction consciously clear and melodic aesthetic; the energy level is consistently high, while the collective appears efficient and purposeful. Mable grabs a hold and before long you’ll be raising the volume and singing along. With there self-titled debut LP due out August 28 via Jade Tree, the uninhibited sound of Dogs on Acid will get things moving with help from local pals, Year Of Glad, and Casual. PhilaMOCA 531 N. 12th St., 8pm, $12, All Ages - Michael Colavita
