Von Shakes

Von Shakes take their anthemic rock to Shea Stadium tonight (12.12)

Rock quartet Von Shakes have a love for NYC that seems lost sometimes on people that have lived here all their lives. Moving here a few years ago from Ireland, the group is bringing our city the kind of anthemic rock joy ingredient that's somewhat scarce in our local rock music.

And considering how large their studio recordings sound, it's easy to imagine how insane they must be when you find yourself in the middle of a sweaty set. So get your butt down to Shea Stadium tonight and see them when they play a just-announced gig, and check out a live recording of the charging 'Robinson Crusoe' here. - Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)

Von Shakes release ‘Bohemia’ at Arlene’s Grocery on 11/16

Ireland natives (but Brooklyn-based) Von Shakes come at you with a burst of energy, compelling melodies and an alt rock edge that will get you rocking. The band - that has accumulated a fan base that spans the Western emisphere since their inception in 2008 - is set to take the stage for the album launch show at NYC’s Arlene’s Grocery with STRNGRS on 11/16. Listen to the piercing guitars and captivating vocals of track three from the upcoming album, titled “My Side” below. – Michael Haskoor (@Tweetskoor)

Deli Best of NYC 2012 - Open Submission Results for ALT ROCK

The entire universe often wonders what the difference is between Alt Rock and Indie Rock. Here at The Deli we call "Alt" that kind of Rock music that's inspired to a more classic concept of Rock'n'Roll or Pop-Rock, or any rock genre that was commercially successful before the aughts - think about bands reminiscent of anything from Led Zeppeling to Aerosmith, Weezer or Nirvana. While Indie Rock tends to be a little more experimental and dark, Alt Rock is (at least in our vocabulary) more traditional and a little more accessible - without being just "pop".
