Spank Rock

Weekend Warrior, May 15 - 17

Rare MP3s, the collaborative digital label and now event production project from Noah Beresin (a.k.a. Noah Breakfast/Xaphoon Jones of Chiddy Bang) and Ryan Schwabe, will be throwing its first of what we are sure to be many ragers this evening at Kung Fu Necktie. They also brought along some of their talented pals like instant party-starter Spank Rock, “Harlem Shake”-famed Baauer, the glitched-out R&B sounds of Moon Bounce, Grave Goods, Dirty South Joe, and many others. It’s a stacked lineup of talented beatmakers all under one roof for your dancing pleasure. Enjoy! Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 9pm, $5, 21+ - H.M. Kauffman

New Video: "Made in Philadelphia" (Noisey) - Various Artists

It does our hearts good seeing/hearing some of our favorite music folks talk about their real experiences in and real love for Philly. As part of Budweiser and Noisey's Made in America video series, you'll find chats with Santigold, Schoolly D, rjd2, Spank RockAmanda Blank, Noah Breakfast (ex-Chiddy Bang), Tom Lax (Philadelphia Record Exchange/Siltbreeze Records), Eric Bresler (PhilaMOCA), and DJ Diamond Kuts. It's pretty rad, especially since Budweiser stopped trying to put in so many product promotion shots - check it out below!

Red Bull Sound Select w/Spank Rock, Prowler & Mumblr at Underground Arts July 19

Spank Rock headlines a trio of local acts for the Red Bull Sound Select showcase curated by Jump Philly. The temperature will be on the rise tonight as the sensual, steamy, pulse-grinding groove is all but assured to make things hot and heavy with a lyrical flow that isn’t afraid to offer direct observations and raunchy intentions that are guaranteed to make those within the confines of Underground Arts blush, giggle and possibly get a bit horny. The moodily melodic pop-punk of Mumblr will also grace the stage with its varying levels of intensity, appropriately fuzzing out while applicably providing an air of disorder. The unfiltered psych-boogie experiment of Prowler appropriately performing underground will expand one’s expectations and wet the appetite for an evening that dares to boldly tear down boundaries. Underground Arts, 1200 Callowhill St., 8pm, $3 (w/RSVP, $10 w/o), 21+ - Michael Colavita

New Music Video: "Gully" - Spank Rock

We can't stop watching this new music video from Spank Rock for his bass-heavy, car-rattling banger "Gully," a collaborative single with Kid Kamillion and Boys Noize. The video plays out more like an excerpt from a gritty Vice documentary, providing us a glimpse into the seedier side of New York that is rarely captured. It was wonderfully directed by NYC street photographer Sean Maung.
