Advocates of all-age safe spaces and music venues, local organization Friends of Noise is doing yet another bit of good to bring music to community... for free. 

From 4pm-8-pm today, Friends of Noise is hosting their "Music For Everyone Day" at Portland City Hall. This is the nonprofit's second attempt at throwing this event, since the initial date had to be rescheduled due to poor air quality caused by the wildfires surrounding the city. Nevertheless, FoN have forged on to bring a wide range of artists to those around the downtown Portland area today.

Young artists are strongly supported by FoN and a couple of them will be taking the stage, like Daniel “D.J. Max” Lasuncet and 15-year-old singer/songwriter JoJo Scott. My Voice Music project BLK + IVY will also perform, along with poet Maurisa Destiny Golden and some of the bigger Portland names. Skull Diver's alternative psych rock is sure to make everyone swoon, while the raw energy of the Woolen Men should perfectly juxtapose the gloominess of today. 

Other youth-oriented organizations and programs were also a part of making this event possible, such as My Voice Music, Outside the Frame, Marrow PDX, Momentum Alliance, SMRYC, the Rock n' Roll Camp for Girls and the Bus Project. It should be noted that water and restrooms are available inside Portland City Hall, but that patrons will have to undergo a back check upon entry. 

If you're looking for something free, fun and inclusive of all-ages and people, Music For Everyone Day is definitely something worth checking out.

Gritty Birds, the local podcast and XRAY.fm radio show, is gearing up to celebrate its two year anniversary with a dance party and performances from some of Portland's best.

Ran by soulful singer, songwriter, producer and music writer Jeni Wren Stottrup, Gritty Birds is nearly 60 episodes deep into its collection personal conversations with artists, on the spot interviews at festivals and new music. Stottrup embodies a DIY approach to showing appreciation for Portland's music scene, always figuring out ways to keep the podcast and radio show relevant and fresh.

For the anniversary dance party and show, Skull Diver and Coco Columbia will be gracing the stage, with a secret headliner to close out the night. Festivities will be hosted by comedienne Kellie Irwin with hopefully a little bit of commentary from Stottrup herself.

Reptaliens really do rule the Earth.

Some of us probably DO feel like the lizard elite run everything, or at the very least, the Cheeto elite do. After the way the last few weeks have gone that seems more like an actual fact than an alternative one. But when it comes to who has taken hold of our local music scene, there are a few names we just can't get out of our heads. One of them is Reptaliens.

Led by the lovely union of Cole and Bambi Browning (Sculpture Gardens, Wampire, Brainstorm), Reptaliens has included members from other talented acts like Fog Father, Cat Hoch Band and Lola Buzzkill over their course of their band-dom, but a constant enjoyment can always be found in their songs. A twee-like innocence presents itself amid the lo-fi instrumentation and angelically comforting vocals from Bambi, allowing their songs to easily sway from flirty bedroom pop songs to surrealistic dream daze productions.

As of right now, Reptaliens are scheduled to play their next show March 3rd with Skull Diver and King Black Acid at Mississippi Studios. Until then, congratulate Reptaliens for being your favorite Indie Pop act of 2016!

Many Portlanders end up spending Thanksgiving in town as our friends gallivant off to their home states for unwanted family time. Instead of going into the upcoming holiday feeling sad and lonely, give a little thanks to this special night the Doug Fir is putting together tomorrow.

For their holiday party, skilled mothman King Black Acid will be playing some of our favorite ambient rock scores, while the sheer power that emanates from each member of Skull Diver's instruments will slowly take over you. Lubec rounds out this bill, making it an overall mellow night of Portland legends offering pre-Thanksgiving enjoyment befitting of Doug Fir's mood lit ambiance.

Music's at 9pm and tickets will run from $10-15. It's low-key also a birthday celebration for 1/3 of Skull Diver, Ally Payne, so come with an extra bit of party pep in your step.

 As if the last couple weeks haven't been enough of a clusterfuck in the way of music festivals, tomorrow brings yet another to add to the list of attendance. This time around, it's a collaboration between three bar venues downtown and Lagunitas Brewing.

PAC NW Fest features 15 bands spread out across Dante's, Ash Street Saloon and Kelly's Olympian, all in one Saturday night. 

Catch what is sure to be a rowdy final performance from Foxy Lemon's drummer Zach Boggis as they headline the bill at Kelly's Olympian. Supporting them will be Bubble Cats, the Hoons, Keeper Keeper and Internal State. That side room at Kelly's is sure to reach capacity.

Over at Dante's, you'll find Seattle's Moon Darling, Willow House, Arlo Indigo and Just Lions opening up for King Who, the new moniker for the trippy synth pop group Us Lights.

Dark pop rock lovers Skull Diver will be closing out the night at Ash Street Saloon with their psychedelic visuals and ethereal vocals. Febian Perez's post-Bike Thief project Eclisse will also take the stage, along with Rader, Young Hunter and Salo Panto.
