Moon Duo
Aptly Named LA Psych Fest Next Weekend

The LA Psychfest continues to curate acts that aren't psychedelic. More power to them.
2015 marks the festival's fourth year of existence, and also its first year away from the Bootleg Theater (currently accepting submissions for a new wall mural). Live performances by veteran Drab Majesty, Ras G, and singer-songwriter Jenny O. might not fit the genre of psychedelic, but they'll certainly expand your consciousness. Psych-rock mavens will still leave happy as locals JJUUJJUU and Mr. Elevator and the Brain Hotel join up with Moon Duo, Night Beats,Tomorrows Tulips, The Budos Band, and Earthless. Way more where that came from, with secret guest DJs, a custom poster by Tim Biskup, and live visuals at the Regent Theater and the Echo/Echoplex.
Single-day and two-day tickets still available. Celebrate and expand your consciousness with music and art next weekend, September 19-20 — you don't have to be on drugs. You do have to be 18 or older. - Ryan Mo
JP's CMJ 2014 Day 5: Slowdive, Low, Moon Duo, White Fence, A Place to Bury Strangers

I promised myself this would be the day I planned everything—the day I wouldn’t have to rush, I’d be where I had to be, when I had to be there, arriving in a calm, collected manner, the whole day. I kept my promise inasmuch as my day starting late, cutting some of the showcases I thought about running to, and meeting my aunt and uncle for a beer at Smorgasborg. I’ve learned that, for the most part, at CMJ, if you miss a band playing an afternoon set, chances are you’ll be able to see them at an evening set. Or better yet, a late night set. - Keep reading JP Basileo's reporting of Day 5 of the CMJ Music Marathon.
Moon Duo at Mississippi Studios 4.28.14

Portland is thriving in its scene of all things psychedelic; which is part of the reason why guitarist Ripley Johnson (of Wooden Shjips) and Sanae Yamada call Portland their home. Their band, Moon Duo has made a giant splash in the psychedelic pool on a worldwide scale after releasing Circles towards the end of 2012. Sanae’s use of the electronic keyboards and drum machines adds elements to make their very own sound. At its base, it is dark, guitar driven rock and roll that is layered with the unique sounds you would hear in electronica and Ripley’s soft vocals. Each of these segments open up a lot of room for Johnson to slash through an amazing guitar solo. Moon Duo play Mississippi Studios this Monday with Eternal Tapestry and Tokyo based psych rippers Kikagaku Moyo; doors at 8pm, show at 9pm, $10 in advance and $12 day of. - Colin Hudson
