The Districts

Weekend Warrior, November 6 - 8

There is a certain charm to watching a local band rise through the music industry and claim their visibility in a more macro cultural lens. Living in Philadelphia, we have been lucky to get to enjoy this process again and again the past few years. One of the more recent Philly exports and former Deli Philly Artist of the Year is The Districts. The quartet makes accessible indie rock of the highest quality, infused with blues, Americana and folk elements, punctuated by lyrics dripping with emotional resonance. The Districts have both an instrumental and lyrical maturity, resembling a more composed, introspective Twin Peaks. The former Lititz, PA natives are headlining the E Factory this evening, and the sweet bill will be rounded out by Lady Lamb, a rocker version of Fiona Apple with haunting vocalization, and local indie-rock favorites, Purples. Weekend Warrior, June 5 - 7

Nepal was overtaken by a horrendous earthquake this past April that took nearly 9,000 lives while leaving more than 23,000 injured. This Saturday night at PhilaMOCA, R5 Productions will be holding a benefit concert with all proceeds going to Thrangu Rinpoche’s School for Himalayan Children, which offers housing, education, medical and dental care to the Nepalese mountain children. Headlining the evening will be exuberant folk rockers The Districts, who will be supported by folk crooner Thom McCarthy. Also added to the bill are the poetic pop stylings of Kississippi. The duo of Zoë Reynolds and Colin James Kupson (ex-Cyberbully Mom Club) has absolutely stolen my heart of late so definitely don’t sleep on them! PhilaMOCA, 531 N. 12th St., 8pm, $15 (Sold Out), All Ages - H.M. Kauffman

New Video: "Bold" (Live - Acoustic) - The Districts

Check out this beautiful, acoutsic rendition of "Bold" performed by The Districts frontman Rob Grote! While at this year's Hangout Music Festival in Gulf Shore, AL, he stopped by the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus to do a recording of the song off the band's latest LP, A Flourish and a Spoil. The Districts will be getting a lot of new stamps on their passports this summer, touching down in Europe, Asia and Australia, but first, they'll be headlining an intimate benefit show for Thrangu Rinpoche’s School for Himalayan Children this Saturday, June 6 at PhilaMOCA.

New Video: Out Of Town Films Pop-up Show - The Districts

The Districts recently performed an intimate pop-up show at Out Of Town Films headquarters to roughly 50 onlookers. This video captures the 3 songs performed as part of full set that evening which included “Hounds,” “Heavy Begs,” and “Bold” - all found on A Flourish and a Spoil. The band, which is currently in the midst of a European tour, consistently pushes the threshold between unveiled, up-close honesty and hard-driving rockers, working that seesaw game of highs and lows.

New Video: "Live In Philadelphia" (Out Of Town Films/Fat Possum) - The Districts

The Districts performed a "secret" show last December, under their alias Eight Legged Prawn, opening for mewithoutYou, who were also billed as Thy Foes Profanely Rage. Out Of Town Films was there to capture the rambuctious four-piece's set with permission from the group's record label Fat Possum. The video consists of live performances of the songs "4th and Roebling," Heavy Begs," "Chlorine," "Suburban Smell," and "Peaches." The band is currently touring the U.S., and will be heading over to Europe next month.
