New Music Video: "Harvey" - Alex G

Alex G, a.k.a. Alexander Giannascoli, just released a new music for the track "Harvey." It's off his latest LP DSU, and was directed by Colin Acchione. He'll be bringing his brand of introspective pop to Johnny Brenda's this Thursday, December 11 opening for Cymbals Eat Guitars.

New Music Video: "Hollow" - Alex G

Below is a new music video from Alex G, a.k.a. Alexander Giannascoli, for the track "Hollow," a genteel ditty with a touch of lo-fi grit from his latest full-length release DSU. It mixes performance footage with creepy cuts of a masked man that fits right into the upcoming holiday season. The video was directed by John Vizzone.

Alex G Hometown Record Release Show at The Fire Aug. 17

After touring the country for nearly a month in support of his new LP DSU with Orchid Tapes labelmates Elvis Depressedly, Alex G, a.k.a. Alex Giannascoli, will be coming home this evening to The Fire to finally celebrate its release with friends and fans. The humble, lo-fi songwriter has been quietly winning critics and fans over with his mix of grungy yet delicate melodies and introspective, obtuse lyrics. We chatted with him earlier this year when he won The Deli Philly’s Year End Readers’/Fans’ Poll. (You can check out our interview HERE.) Alex G will be joined by Elvis Depressedly, who may not be anymore soon so you don’t want to miss this one, Cold Foamers, and Snoozer. Heads up - it’s an early all-ages show brought to you by The Guild! The Fire, 412 W. Girard Ave., 7pm, $10, All Ages - Alexis V.

Foxes in Fiction play Shea Stadium with Evlis Depressedly and Alex G on 08.16

Foxes in Fiction started out as a project based around Warren Hildebrand's interests in tape machines, field recordings, and sampling and the manipulation of those mediums.  His music is ambient, intimate, and surreal; almost all of his tracks feel like they're floating on air, existing in a dream like state.  The manipulation of the sounds from the environments that surround us has long been explored (starting with the futurist painter Luigi Russolo and his manifesto, The Art of Noises, in 1913!!), and it brings us joy that there are people still exploring those mediums in the NYC DiY community.  Taking music past the point of what our ears are conditioned to experience, Foxes in Fiction near the connection between music and Earth by combining the two: the world is an instrument, and Foxes in Fiction shows us this in a beautiful way.

Hildebrand also co-runs Orchid Tapes, who put out records by both Alex G and Elvis Depressedly.  The reason I mention those names specifically is because all three of those artists are playing a show at Shea Stadium this Saturday August 16 along with Emily Reo.  Alex G was our best emerging artist of 2013 for the Philadephia blog, and Elvis Depressedly is soon to be no more, so it's definitely a show worth checking out.  Stream Foxes in Fiction's song "8/29/91" below -Jake Saunders
