New Track: "Bug" - Alex G

Alex G’s new album Beach Music is due out via UK label Domino on October 9. His fresh single “Bug” catches you in the crosshairs of yet another of his mesmerizing lo-fi narrative webs. The former The Deli Philly’s Year End Readers’/Fans’ Poll Winner’s fall tour rolls into First Unitarian Church November 14 with Girlpool and Eskimeaux.

Alex G Opening for Unknown Mortal Orchestra at Boot & Saddle June 16 & 17

Alex G’s music finds that special way of washing over you, embodying that up close bedroom approach. The lo-fi melodics and his brand of simple yet twisting narrative lyricism create a welcoming personal sound that’s hypnotically soothing while occupying a somewhat warped headspace. It can be densely layered while creating an airy cathartic experience, floating as it spaces out and still connects to home. Over the next two nights at Boot & Saddle, the former The Deli Philly’s Year End Readers’/Fans’ Poll Winner opens a pair of sold-out shows for Unknown Mortal Orchestra, whose new record is a melting pot of synth-friendly R&Bthat takes a hold of you while still exploring a psychedelic side. Boot & Saddle, 1131 S. Broad St., 8pm, $15 (Sold Out), 21+ - Michael Colavita

Girlpool Opening for Alex G at PhilaMOCA Feb. 3

So, the good news first - a trio of excellent bands are performing tonight in the intimately close quarters of PhilaMOCA. The recently transplanted LA-native pairing of Cleo Tucker and Harmony Tividad, better known as Girlpool, excel at creating music whose stripped-down guitar and bass instrumentation musters significant substance with a catchy twist. The sincere emotional expression through their songs conjures a real, resonating power. Tightly weaving vocals demonstrate a united front, which whether it aches or smiles in the first-hand storytelling of their lyrics, leaves a listener feeling that he/she were witness to (or given access to) private personal moments and thoughts. Former The Deli Philly’s Year End Readers’/Fans’ Poll Winner, Alex G headlines this evening bringing an infectiously intimate dose of melodic lo-fi that seeps into your conscience, while the noise friendly pop-punk marriage of Maryland’s on-again, off-again band Teen Suicide is sandwiched in the middle. However, the bad news is that this show is sold out so hopefully you already have your ticket in hand. New Music Video: "Too Long Here" (Feat. Alex G) - Ryan Hemsworth

Directed by Alex Girav, here’s a video for “Too Long Here” a collaborative effort between Alex G and Ryan Hemsworh found on Hemsworth’s Alone For The First Time. Despite its casual strolling production, the video has a creepy edge as selfies take on a personality of their own. Alex G strolls back into town February 3, performing alongside the freshly transplanted Girlpool as well as Teen Suicide at PhilaMOCA.
