Brooklyn by way of Tel Aviv artist O Mer employs DAW, synths and electric guitar to create minimalistic pop gems that are as catchy as they are arresting. Started as a one man band, the project has recently expanded to comprise a full band, which has brought the sound to new heights of sonic refinement. O Mer's new EP "Refugee" blends synth-pop with soulful and eastern influences

On his new EP entitled Refugee, Brooklyn by way of Tel Aviv artist O Mer deconstructs genres in a way that allows him to bend electronica with both soulful and eastern influences. The EP features the breakout single “Now I’m Alive,” as well as tracks that have only previously been performed live, like “The Veil” (streaming below), a song that can most accurately be described as meditative. The EP channels themes of displacement and disorientation that arise from living in a foreign country.

O Mer brings soulful electronica to Alphaville 7.13

Brooklyn-based O Mer participates in the effort undertaken by a select number of soul artists (many of them based in NYC) to dismantle once and for all the notions that: A. electronic music is overly clinical and "cold," and B. soul music is not adventurous enough. In his single “Now I’m Alive” (streaming below,) his falsetto, overlaying a heavy bass synth line and melodic drops, makes the song surge with emotion. A pulsating beat accompanies the vocals towards a word-less chorus, where abrasive synths intersect with ghostly melodic lines in a triumph of glissando. The artist employs similar production approach in more lyrically driven single, "Overflown." O Mer will be playing a set at Alphaville on July 13th, alongside Secret Crush and No Ice. - Lilly Milman
